Tom Ammermann has been researching Headphone Surround 3D and building professional spatial audio software since 2009. Now he was nominated for the Grammy 2018 in "Best Surround Sound Album" for his work as surround mastering engineer on Kraftwerk's 3-D The Catalogue.
To celebrate, we're releasing a free Surround Sound App for everyone.
Breathtaking Movie Experience
Thanks to the virtual surround sound loudspeaker system provided by the Spatial Sound Card, you can now have a breathtaking cinema-like movie experience on the go. Just put on your headphones, fire up the app, and go!
You'll be able to precisely hear where your opponents are, thanks to the integrated high-quality virtual surround loudspeaker system. We also support an optional low-latency mode optimized for professional gaming.
Most chart hits are mastered for Hi-fi stereo systems. They won't sound as good on headphones. The Spatial Sound Card can simulate a virtual loudspeaker system for you, so that you can enjoy your music the way it was meant to sound. Powerful and amazing.
Regular headphones have two membranes. When you buy 5.1 Headphones, you also get hardware with just two membranes. The key difference is that USB box which will control the two membranes in such a way that it sounds like surround sound.
This app replaces the USB box. For free.
Probably yes. We're coming from a movie production background, so we value sound quality above everything else. Our app will use more CPU power than competing solutions, but in exchange you will get much more realistic results.
All competing Surround Sound Apps or USB boxes that I know of use pure mathematical algorithms for their virtual surround sound. In contrast, we measured Hi-Fi loudspeaker systems in various arrangements in professional recording studios, to get the data for our Surround Sound.
Probably yes. We present ourselves to Windows as a 5.1 sound card. So everything that works with "hardware" Surround Sound headphones will also work with our app.
Yes. The basic technology of driving a two-membrane hardware (i.e. regular headphones) with a 5.1 Surround Sound signal through clever mathematics is how almost every pair of 5.1 Headphones on the market works.
Usually you would get this inside a USB box that comes with your headphones. We turned it into an app, so that we can hand it out for free.
PS: The app is really easy to install and/or remove. And free. You're probably best off just trying it out for yourself. Watch a nice 5.1 movie, then toggle the "Headphone Surround 3D" button to hear the difference yourself.
Yes, 5.1 Surround Sound in the "New York" studio is completely free. You can unlock other loudspeaker arrangements and other studios if you want to support us. But that is 100% optional and the app will continue to work just fine if you never spend a penny. The app is also 100% ad-free.
This is meant as a gift to people who like Surround Sound movies and music, like the amazing work that Tom got Grammy-nominated for. Why would we ruin that with trial popups or obnoxious ads?
Do your headphones work with Windows? If so, they'll also work with the Spatial Sound Card.
We support WASAPI, which is the standard for Windows 7 and newer.
We mean it: You can get started completely for free.
